How people think or should think about news

Of the many rating servives perhaps the best known are: Nielsen, comScore, and Hitwise. The results are similar. The differences might be attributed to the exact wording of the question, where or when the question was asked. Wording such as most trusted, most popular, most entertaining, and most liked are very different questions. The previous activities just prior to the survey being taken has an effect. The human mind could well be relating the current situation to what just happen a few minutes ago. Are the participate home near their television sets? are they in transit on the subway were their source of information in their smart phones?

The term fake news is very popular at the moment. Fake news has been with us for as long as people have been play games like grape vine. A person starts a rumor at the beginning of a long line, the message is compared to what apears st the other end of the line, is it the same? Did the message of any validity at the beginning? I think it was Hitler that said if you say something often enough or loud enough that people will believe it. Many wars have been started and fought because of emotions or yellow journalism. The Spanish American war was fought because Newspaper wanted to sell newspapers. The American British War of 1812 was fought because emotions were high, perhaps only the President understood that we had not the military, land forces or navy to fight such as war. He resisited as long as he could. Remember Shakespear's Julius Ceasar? how the crowd approved of the murder of Julis Ceasar ( the protential dictator) after Mark Anthony's passionate speach they condemed the murders. Have you heard somebody say that those products were made at salve wages? However soes that phase wiegh that the workers has no jobs at all just prior to that factory coming to the third world nation.

We must teach the next generation to think. Head lines are becoming more and more sensational in an attempt to compete for our attention in a world where we are bombarded with messages every moment.

Nielsen ratings

Source Wilipedia Nielsen ratings are the audience measurement systems operated by Nielsen Media Research that seek to determine the audience size and composition of television programming in the United States. Nielsen Media Research was founded by Arthur C. Nielsen, a market analyst whose career had begun in the 1920s with brand advertising analysis and had expanded into radio market analysis during the 1930s, culminating in Nielsen ratings of radio programming, which was meant to provide statistics as to the markets of radio shows. The first Nielsen ratings for radio programs were released the first week of December 1947. They measured the top 20 programs in four areas: total audience, average audience, cumulative audience and homes per dollar spent for time and talent.[1] In 1950, Nielsen moved to television, developing a ratings system using the methods he and his company had developed for radio. That method has since become the primary source of audience measurement information in the television industry around the world.
